Establish the profile before pricing the installation
Shape and size matter when new sections need to meet existing work. A photo taken square to the profile, with approximate dimensions, helps begin identification. Exact availability must be confirmed, especially when the original detail differs from readily available products.
Account for corners and the surfaces beneath
The amount of work depends on perimeter length, corners, height and the condition of the junction. Removal can also leave adjacent surfaces needing preparation. Ask the contractor to identify the removal, installation, setting and painting boundaries in the quote.
Coordinate matching with the bigger change
If a ceiling is being replaced or a wall moved, include the whole change rather than the missing cornice alone. This helps define where a matching section should end. Where matching is impractical, you can ask about replacing a complete room perimeter as a separate option.
Questions about cornice replacement & matching.
Can an older decorative profile be matched exactly?
The profile and available products need checking. Provide photos and measurements before treating an exact match as confirmed.
Can I replace cornices while keeping the ceiling?
That can be assessed from the existing condition. Ask how removal and surface preparation will affect the wall and ceiling around the junction.
